I really don’t think we would have expected 2020

I really don’t think we would have expected 2020 to be this type of year, ever! More weirder, crazy, and scary stuff are coming to light. Definitely a year of judgement. The world is changing and we are all changing. Nothing stays the same.

Life is so surreal now! How can we be indifferent

Life is so surreal now! How can we be indifferent to everything that is going on? To the injustices? To the lack of humanity? So many things are coming to light that scares me.

I remember years ago reading an article of the years when we will truly see equality, when world hunger would be eradicated, when racism would not be present, etc. I hope to see the day when these things are true, not for me but for my daughters and the new generations to come 🙏🏼

All the systemic racial and inequality has fueled my need to advocate even more for my daughters, for all people of color yo afford the same opportunities. I’m constantly seeking resources and opportunities so that they grow up healthy, they have the resources to learn, and have access to a quality education. I had dreams of going to any Ivy League school but financially it was not an option. I got accepted into great schools but my parents couldn’t afford it. I will be the biggest advocates for my daughters because they are also deserving of the same opportunities. #parentadvocate #latinafamilia #tuluchaesmilucha #equality

I remember that one of my first friends in first grade was a black girl. She had such a gentle spirit. I was just 6 years old and we had barely immigrated to the US. We were the only two colored girls in our classroom at that time. Somehow we just gravitated to each other. Somehow we understood each other and had each other when other kids wouldn't play with us. It was then when I started understanding color and differences. That's when I realized that certain kids wouldn't play with us and how others kids voices were heard and acknowledged louder than ours.
I feel like I can’t go back to normal, we have to use this platform to educate ourselves and our community. Let’s call our racism together. Let’s teach a new generation a different worldview where skin color is nothing more then that. Let’s create a world where it’s safe for our kids to never have to fear anything. Where diversity or people and language is accepted and a beautiful thing.

It’s 3am and I’m up trying to catch up, read,

It’s 3am and I’m up trying to catch up, read, and learn. I’ve been lucky that part of my education has been been centered around these topics of race and inequality. I keep reading all of these personal experiences from people and they feel familiar. They feel like those are my own stories. As a little girl I remember being told to go back to my country or denied opportunities because of my ethnicity.
I remember my first class in college was Intro to Political Science 101. It was a huge class, maybe 30 to 40 students. And in that first day, I was the only person of color. I felt intimidated. I felt tiny. Left alone to navigate this white space by myself. I've been in these spaces where I haven't felt safe or confident enough to speak up for myself.
We are the generation that will change this for our children!

There are so many things that I've been processing

There are so many things that I've been processing in the last few days and so much more that I've wanted to say and share.
People are coming to a realization, to an understanding of what black, brown, and minority groups endure on a daily basis. They witnessed it for themselves. They've seen what white privilege looks like and how it is used to systematically to keep a group marginalized. They've seen how this creates racism, poverty, economic inequality, and violence against a group of people. I hope that people are becoming aware of their biases, they're prejudices, stereotypes, and racism. Don't just be about seeing this as a trend but about actively working to make a poignant difference to how you treat people. Be about change. Be about humanity. Black lives matter. Brown lives matter. Native Americans lives matter.
I’m starting by educating myself and raising kind and empathetic daughters. They will experience this at least once in their lifetime so I want to show them how to stand up for what is just, to advocate for change, and to be a voice for those who need help. #educationisresistance #endinjustices
