I feel like the month of February just came and went by so fast. We are slowly heading in to March and spring. A favorite time of the year for many. February has been a good month with lots of parties, events, celebrations and favorites. I’m excited to start a new blog series for monthly favorites. This is a great way to share some of my favorite finds, foods, activities with my daughter, family fun, and many more that other mamas might like.
- Favorite Place
I know that I might be late to the game but I recently discover this store and I am a new fan. Home Goods is a fun store for mamas. If I could, I would buy so many things. I’ve been there a couple of times this month and just browsing through the aisle is fun and I get so much home inspiration.
- Favorite Recipe
Like the traditional Mexican mama, la sopa nunca falta. Growing up, my mom would make the best sopa de fideo. I was first introduced to it by my grandma and my mom would make it all the time. I especially loved the alphabet soup. Now my mom loves making it for my daughter and she absolutely loves it. Like all toddlers, she refuses to eat vegetables. Since she loves sopa so much, we started incorporating vegetables so she can have her intake of vegetables. We cut up the vegetable in tiny pieces so she doesn’t pick them out and it seems to work. She will finish a full plate. Here is the full recipe. It is a fast and easy recipe to make and a great way to incorporate vegetables.
Vegetables (organic, optional)
1. We boil the vegetables about 15 minutes prior to the noodles because these cook really quick. You can add any vegetables you prefer. Whenever I can, I buy organic.
2. Add some olive oil to a pan, and the n
oodles, and cook it for a few minutes until golden brown.
5. Blend the tomatoes, garlic, and onion. Add these to the noodles and stir.
4. Add the chicken and chicken broth. This step is optional. We are trying to get my daughter to eat more chicken and vegetables so this is the only way she will eat these two.
5. Stir occasionally and let the noodles cook for about 20 to 30 minutes.
- Favorite Outfit
I cannot remember the last time I bought clothes for myself. My attention usually goes directly to cute outfits for my daughter so this month’s favorite outfit goes to my daughter. I got so excited for February and could not decide on one outfit but I did love a red dress sold by Wild Hart Inc. It is a cute chic little red dress. I paired it with a big pink bow that complimented the dress just perfectly. Once I put my daughter into the dress, she said “cute” in a sweet voice and started twirling around. The shop has become a favorite of mines this month. For a discount, use my code: Penelope10.
- Favorite Book/Show/Movie
I am sure this movie is on everyone’s favorite list for this month but the Black Panther is an absolute must see! I loved every aspect of this movie from the cultural depictions, the storyline, the characters, the message, everything. I did not know about this movie until my husband mentioned it. We were out for our Valentine’s day date. I wanted to do dinner and a movie. I had in mind to go see another movie but was so thankful that we ended up seeing the Black Panther. It is beautiful to see movies that create heroes for different cultural communities. We need characters and heroes that our children can relate to, look like them, and emulate. Such a great movie and I highly recommend it.
- Favorite kid’s item
While it is intended for my daughter, my favorite item this year is her new play kitchen. I purchased it from Ikea for her birthday and I had so much fun accessorizing it for her. The little girl in me always wanted a play kitchen so I get to enjoy it through my daughter. Every moment I get to use play time as a teaching moment, I take it. I’ve been having fun teaching my daughter about the different vegetable, colors, numbers, and phrases she can use.
- Favorite beauty/skincare product
I admit that I am lacking in this beauty department. Since becoming a mother, my priority has shifted and I have been neglecting my skincare. One item that I did start using this month has been Honest’s Dreamy Lavendar ultra calming face and body lotion. We’ve been having some dry and cold weather that this lotion had been great for my face and hands. I even have one in my desk. I have been using Honest products since my daughter was born and I love their products from diapers, wipes, household items, and beauty products. I am always conscious of what goes into products so this is a brand that I trust not only for myself but my family. Click on this link to check out their safe and responsibly made products.
- Favorite Date Night
My husband and I celebrated Valentine’s Day a few days later. He has been working so much and wanted to take me and my daughter out for a nice dinner. It is so nice to go out as a family, have fun, and enjoy some quality time together. Of course, we had to have Italian food. It is my favorite and my daughter loves spaghetti.
- Favorite Cocktail/Mocktail
I feel like such a boring person but I don’t drink at all. I wish I would! Before I had my daughter, my favorite drink of choice was always a margarita. I liked that various types of flavors available. A margarita is always great to add a little spice!
- Favorite Target Find
I can never leave target without buys a lot of things that I think I need. Target just gets us! It has so many cute must have stuff even if we don’t need them. My favorite finds this month have been accessories in the dollar section for my daughter. I found a cute matching apron and table cloth as well as a cute little “hello” sign that just compliments her little play kitchen.
- Favorite Activity
My favorite activity this year was finally finishing decorating my daughter’s room. I’m excited to do a separate blog post on this but here is a sneak peak. I wanted her room to be fun, girly, and add bits of culture here and there. My daughter and I would spend most afternoons playing and decorating. I would stand back and look at the room. My daughter would do the same and just say “cute”. It’s become her favorite new word for this month. As long as my daughter loves it, I am one happy mama.
- Favorite Restaurant/Food
My favorite food is Italian. I love all of it! When we were deciding on what restaurant to go to for Valentine’s Day, I had one in mind instantaneously. The Old Spagetti Factory is one of my favorite restaurants of all time. We haven’t been here in a while and I was so excited to have a nice family meal. It is a fun family friendly restaurant with great food and customer service. If you are looking for a nice Italian Restaurant, this is a favorite pick of mines.
I hope you enjoyed reading about some of my February favorites and get inspired by it!
